Pakistani official calls for enhancement of air, rail tie with Iran

Islamabad, IRNA – President of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari has said that the development of Pakistan and Iran are interlinked and that improvement of rail and air connections is necessary for increasing trade between the two countries.

According to the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry website, heading a delegation, Bakhtawari met with Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam at the Iranian Embassy, IRNA wrote on Saturday.

In the meeting, issues of mutual interest and improvement of trade relations between the two countries, barter trade, energy projects, and other issues were also discussed.

He also said that Pakistan and Iran not only share a border but are also connected by mutual historical and cultural ties, which should be used to promote trade and business, adding that direct air connectivity, rail and road systems should be improved based on their importance.

In this regard, the two governments should form a joint plan of action, he said.

The Iranian ambassador to Pakistan said in the meeting that the new changes taking place in the region are a great opportunity for Pakistan and Iran and Pakistan and Iran need to take advantage of these opportunities together.
